Summary

My perfect life is falling apart. My wife is leaving me, and I’m fighting for our marriage, our kids—for her. Then she walks through the door, and everything changes. Beautiful, sweet Beth. She’s much too young, but I can’t stay away. Despite our secrecy, someone knows. They’re using the information to destroy me. It’s not a matter of if my marriage will survive, or if I’ll be able to find happiness with my new love…it’s a matter surviving at all. I have to unravel this web of lies before it’s too late.

Prologue

I was born into wealth. My family had a successful cotton plantation in the late eighteen hundreds and then later invested in oil. Davis was a prominent name in the South during the late 1800s through the early 1900s. As the need for oil become front and center, my ancestors moved the family to Texas, purchasing mass quantities of land for oil rigs. As a result, the Davise's became one of the first families in America to reach billionaire status. My grandfather was very proud of this fact and let everyone around him know it. By twenty-seven I had finished law school, passed the bar exam, and was starting my own firm with my best friend from elementary school, Porter Matthews. I was successful in my own right despite my family’s enormous amount of wealth. However, that wasn’t good enough. My father and grandfather felt it was time for me to settle down and carry on the Davis name. It couldn’t just be anyone I had to settle down with, it had to be someone worthy of everything the Davis name had to offer.

I had been dating Parker Matthews since freshman year of college. We both went to Yale and then I continued to NYU for law school. She followed me to New York and then we chose to move closer to our families in Boston. It seemed like a match made in heaven. Parker’s grandfather and my grandfather had been best friends, as were Porter and I. It seemed like the next logical step to settle down and marry Parker. My grandfather was delighted.

I use the security camera to watch my wife sleep. She’s beautiful and peaceful. Parker is the epitome of socialite wives. She’s drop dead gorgeous with her black hair, porcelain white skin, and navy eyes. She looks stunning on my arm at any event we go to. She’s kind and generous, and while she may not be the most perfect mom, she did give me three sons to carry on the family name. Fortunately, she has no idea the extent of what I’ve done. She has no idea that I consciously made a decision that will implode the bubble we’ve been living under for the past fourteen years.

I take another sip of scotch and flip to the camera in my oldest son Trent Jr’s room. He’s eleven now. Just had his birthday last week. I almost missed it because I was too busy getting everything I wanted, needed, and craved from her. I remember watching her on her knees with her mouth tightly wrapped around my cock and her big doe eyes staring back at me. I realized right then and there I could never say no to her. I was in love with her. I am in love with her. Unfortunately, she’s not my wife.

TJ has been asleep for a couple of hours and hasn’t moved an inch. His innocence brings tears to my eyes. I’ve worked so hard over the years to become a successful lawyer and provide the best of everything for my children. Now their world is about to collapse from beneath them. We’re going to lose it all; the house, money, family, and reputation. I did this to them. I am the monster who couldn’t keep his feelings in check. I am the one who allowed himself to get involved with another woman. I alone am to blame. I know I should hate myself, but I don't. Although I hate that I've destroyed the lives of my sons and my wife, there is the side that is completely happy. I've never been more alive and free as I am when I'm with her. She's my everything. She makes me complete. Unfortunately, she's eighteen and I'm forty-one. Despite the fact that I love her, by many standards, I'd be considered a pedophile--a child molester and a monster.

Romantic Suspense
Limitless Publishing

A writer, a musician, an unexpected love...and a killer who wants to destroy it all.

Reclusive author Abby Delaney never dreamed she'd meet her rock-n-roll fantasy Seth Caldwell in her quaint, lakeside town…or that his love might be deadly.

Seth is weary of road trips, endless parties, and dead-end relationships, but what choice does he have? Songwriting and performing are all he knows. Then he meets Abby and finally finds a heart he can’t stand to break.

But forget small-town tranquility. An attempt is made on Seth’s life, and another mysterious death hits eerily close to home.
Everyone’s a suspect, he’s taunted with ominous messages, and it’s only a matter of time until the killer finds his mark.
What if the only way to keep Abby safe is to do the one thing she can never forgive—walk away?

As the noose tightens, one thing becomes clear…

If the killer isn’t found soon, Seth and Abby will take their love to the grave.

MEET THE AUTHOR:
Lori spent her early years reading books in a tree in northern West Virginia. The 1980s and 90s found her and her husband moving around the Midwest, mainly because it was easier to move than clean the apartment. After seventeen frigid years in Minnesota, she fled to coastal North Carolina in 2013. She will never leave, and if you try to make her, she will hurt you.

She has worked in public libraries, written advertising copy for wastewater treatment equipment, and managed a holistic veterinary clinic. Her current day job, conducted from her World Headquarters and Petting Zoo (her couch) is as the Managing Editor for Limitless Publishing, as well as editing for a select group of indie authors.

Her dogs are a big part of her life, and she has served or held offices in Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenees rescues, a humane society, a county kennel club, and her own chapter of Therapy Dogs International.

She has been a columnist and feature writer for auto racing and pet publications, and won the Dog Writers Association of America’s Maxwell Award for a series of humor essays.

Parents of a grown son, Lori and her husband were high school sweethearts, and he manages to love her in spite of herself. Some of his duties include making sure she always has fresh coffee and safe tires, trying to teach her to use coupons, and convincing the state police to spring her from house arrest in her hotel room in time for a very important concert. That last one only happened once—so far—but she still really, really appreciates it.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:
“It’s okay,” I assured him and his features hardened. “I understand.”

“Are you done?” he asked.

“It doesn’t have to be a problem.” I was just glad I figured it out now prior to my heart

getting in the way of things. It was a good thing to know now before things went any further than they already had between us.

“A problem,” he repeated, closing his eyes for a minute. “The only problem we have here is you.” I flinched at his words.

“Me?” I asked feeling slightly irritated.

“Yeah,” he said opening his eyes, looking directly into mine. “You keep looking for a way to prove this thing between us won’t work out. You’re just waiting for the moment you can say ‘I fucking told you so.’ But I got news for you, Morgan.” He lifted his hands and curled his fingers with mine. “That moment isn't coming.”

He closed the last amount of distance between us, pressing his lips to mine, as he slowly lifted my hands above my head. Pinning me to the door, using his body to press tightly to mine, he conquered my mouth leaving me breathless.

“I’m in this with you because I want to be, not because I feel like I have to be,” he whispered as he kissed along my jaw. “Stop pushing me away, stop fighting it.”

In a slow torturous pace, he kissed along my jaw and down the side of my neck.

There was really no point in fighting for control because at that moment Xavier had it. He knew just how to manipulate my body to react to his touch, to his kiss. Within seconds I was ready to let go of all my reservations and let him do whatever he wanted.

He was right, why fight it? Challenging the connection between us was exhausting.

I bit at his lower lip as he began to pull away, triggering a moan from between his lips.

“I think it’s time you accept it,” he said, skimming the side of my nose with his own. “You

want me, I want you, there’s really nothing more that matters than that.”

He was a cocky asshole who was completely right.

“Show me how much you want me,” I challenged him and I could see his eyes fill with lust.

The way he pushed his hips forward, grinding his erection against me. “No,” I whispered, “show me.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Michael Dean was born in Mountain View California in 1976, raised in Tucson Arizona, and now resides just outside of Dallas Texas.

Michael’s adventurous style has led him to start and run a successful small business for the past ten years, as well as writing YA novels and playing music. His passion for music and the pen collided when he was younger, causing him to pick up a guitar and write his own music. That drive led him to starting his own band, getting it played on regional radio stations, even competing in Ozzy Osbourne’s battle for Ozzfest in New York City.

Still just as driven, now he prefers quieter days to himself, thus giving him time to improve on his main passion, writing. Drift, a YA paranormal fantasy, is a bi-product of that alone time. He hopes that when a reader picks up his works, he or she will love it just as much as he did writing it.

Mattie feels like she has to help Sally, but she can’t do it alone. Only to find out she’s dealing with a much bigger problem, a serial killer, and she may be the next victim… Will Mattie be able to find out the truth before the killer finds her?

abookandalattee has the please of asking Apryl some question's. Find out more about her and The Ghost Files.
So tell us a little bit about Apryl Baker.
Well, in a nutshell, I’m the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up.  Seriously, sometimes I can be mid-sentence and I’ll get an idea and stop talking so I can write it down.  Terribly rude, I know, but my friends and family are used to it!

Mattie is a very, well, let's call her unique.  What inspired you when you created that little bundle of attitude?
LOL!  She is that, isn't she?  Well, honestly, I had some foster kids living down the block from me and I had the opportunity to get to know them.  It took me the better part of a year to get them to trust me enough to open up.  I have to say they were the bravest, most courageous kids I've ever met. They are tough as nails, loyal only to each other, and they will break your heart.  Some of the stories they told me made me want to just cry.  Don't get me wrong, there are tons of great foster homes out there, the one they were in at the time I got to know them was one of those, but there are just as many bad ones as well.  I got to hear up close and personal just how bad some of them were.
Those experiences shaped those kids into the people they were.  They all had serious trust issues and sometimes the haunted look in their eyes made me hurt.  When I got the idea for this story, Mattie in my mind was a foster kid.  I wanted to show people that those kids are more than just the tough facade they show to the world, that they are vulnerable and sweet underneath their layers of shields.  I rolled all their attitude into Mattie and there's a little bit of each of them in her.
Mattie Louise Hathaway is that tough as nails foster kid who looks after her own and will deck you as soon as look at you, but underneath all that attitude, there's still a sixteen year old girl who's scared, alone, vulnerable, and well 16!  She still notices the cute guy while being that sassy, snotty brat!

I know that most writers have to have music when they are writing.  Let's face it, music has inspired so many different stories over the years.  What was on your playlist when you wrote The Ghost Files?
Wow, well, I did listen to a ton of different music, but these were my favs:
Fall Out Boy: My Song Knows What You Did In the Dark (this song alone is responsible for the last five chapters of the book!)
Evanescence:  Bring Me Back To Life
Bruno Mars:  Just the Way You Are
Demi Lavato:  Heart Attack
Taylor Swift:  I Knew You Were Trouble
Taking Back Sunday:  Make Damn Sure
My Chemical Romance:  I Don't Love You
My Chemical Romance:  The Ghost of You
Korn:  Freak On A Leash
Dashboard Confessional:  Slow Decay
Valora: I Waited For You

What advice would you give struggling authors in today's market?
My best advice is to never give up.  I still have stack upon stack of rejection letters sitting on my desk.  It sucks!  That will never change.  You write this amazing story, polish it up a hundred times, then send out the query letter you slaved over for weeks, only to get rejection upon rejection upon rejection.  Huge blow to anyone's confidence.  Here's the thing though, you have all these rejection letters, but it only takes that one yes to make it all better.  I almost gave up on writing, but I'm so glad I didn't.  I have an amazing writing group, an agent that believes in me, and a publisher that is downright awesome.  Just believe in yourself.  You can't see your dreams come true if you don't keep trying.  Give yourself a minute to wallow in pity, then get up, dust yourself off and try, try again!

So why should we all rush out to buy The Ghost Files?
That's simple!  It's awesome!  No, really, it's a fun, but scary read.  I have been advised by all the Wattpad crew who read it before it was published that you cannot read it in the dark. Scared them senseless.  There's a hint of romance, but the book itself is centered around the mystery of who killed Mattie's foster sister and the fact that Mattie now has to face her own weirdness.  She can see ghosts?  Um, not something she advertises.  Then there's Officer Dan...yum, all I'm saying.
 About the Author:

So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friend Chazz laughs at me when I scare myself watching them and tells me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep. Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama on you. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters. Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my family and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol. I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.
PS: DO NOT GET IN MY WAY IF THERE IS A SALE ON AT TARGET - my home away from home!
