“The Waves of Love Can Make You Sick”

LOVE SICK
by USA Today Best Selling Author HJ Bellus & The Girls
A Reckless Series Spin-off

Memphis Love knows three things.
Money
Sex
Women

As long as it has a pond for him to dip his pole into, he’s game, and he doesn’t stick to just one pond for his fishing trips either.

The small, beach town he lives in doesn’t offer much for job opportunities or at least lucrative ones. He relies on his body, the pole, and stage. Oh, and the after hour clients.

Iris, his best after hour customer, takes him on a yearly cruise with her friends. He’s there for one purpose and one purpose only…their boy toy.

Memphis is no fool. A two week, all paid cruise to soak up the sun and sights is a no brainer. Only thing is he didn’t expect a little ray of sunshine on the ship this year. Raylan Moore has the power to rattle everything he once believed.

The doctor is in; he’s willing, able and ready to please. Dr. Love has the cure to your Love Sick  blues, only this time maybe he’s the one needing the healing.

Interview:

How did you come up with the title?
It was a long, desperate search! And then, one day, I was walking with my son around the park and it hit me out of nowhere. It’s usually not that easy, though.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
I mostly want readers to have fun with the book. And if they can walk away feeling a little inspired by Sam’s evolution over the course of the novel, by her beating the ghosts that haunt her, then that’s a great bonus for me.
What books have most influenced your life?
The first book I ever remember loving was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I stole Whitney, My Love from my mom’s bookshelf when I was waaaay too young to be reading romance. And then I stole her books for years afterward and never got caught! (Sorry, Ma!) One for the Money opened my eyes to romance as comedy – and Jennifer Cruisie’s Bet Me showed me the best that a romance novel can ever be.
What book are you reading now?
I’m reading a fellow author’s newest – Stanalei Fletcher’s The Honor Code.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I’ve read so many amazing new authors through the ’17 Scribes – www.17scribes.com -- it’s a group of authors who are debuting novels in 2017 and the talent amongst this group is unreal.
What are your current projects?
I’m working on a follow-on novel that will give Samantha’s sister, Josephine, the happily ever after she’s been waiting for.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
So, so many things. But that’s just part of writing. I think it’s important to accept there are always things you would change because you will constantly grow as an author. But the important thing is to move on to the next project and not dwell on the past.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Let’s just say Josephine finds herself in the middle of a crisis when she finally decides to make a move for Kai, just as her long-lost husband knocks on her front door.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Finding the time to do it! It’s something you have to practice every single day.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ humor. I snatch up her novels the moment they come out.
Do you travel much concerning your book(s)?
I write from my experiences – okay, except the part about law enforcement and chasing down a drug cartel, that’s all fake – but I really have been to Secret Beach. I know that stretch of sand really, really well. And when I needed a setting for my book, I could think of no place I loved more and wanted to capture on the page, than Maui.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The endless rewrites. This is my first published novel and it took a long time to get it right! I learned a ton along the way and I’m so grateful to the people who helped me get here. But I do hope that next time is slightly less painful!
What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing it to life?
The very biggest challenge I faced was believing in myself, believing I could do it even when statistically, there was no reason to expect I’d have success. There were a lot of moments where I wanted to give in, and I’m so glad I pushed through.

Excerpt:
“The sunlight was intense after a half hour in that gloomy space, but I squinted hard and kept moving toward a narrow set of steps down to the parking lot. Grady walked a few paces behind me, and if he heard the crinkle of paper as I moved, he elected not to say anything.
Grady hit the remote to his truck and grabbed for the passenger side door, his hand light on my elbow as he helped me up. Paper crackled as my butt hit the seat and Grady’s eyes narrowed. Without a word, he slammed my door and went around to the driver’s side, climbing up into the cab and stabbing the keys into the ignition.
“So, I—” I hesitated as I shifted in my seat and my movement was accompanied by the distinct sound of cardboard bending.
“No,” Grady muttered, and clicked on the radio. “No talking.”
“But—”
“Shh.” Grady put a finger to his lips, his eyes still on the road. “Any minute you’re going to tell me about the felony crime you just committed. And then I’m going to have to deal with the fact that I was an accessory to a felony crime."
“Umm, yeah.” I reached around to the back of my pants and eased the file folder up from my waistband, working it out slowly so as to not lose anything as Grady headed up the hillside toward his house. As I brought it around to look at it, the red block letters damning me to years of incarceration should I get caught, a muscle ticked in Grady’s jaw.
“You stole classified documents.” He shook his head from side to side.
I looked up at Grady and then down at the mangled file with the red Top Secret heading. I took a corner of the front sheet and ripped across the width of the page, separating the words “Top Secret” from the rest of the paper.
“They’re declassified now.” I crumpled up the classification and shoved it in my pocket.
Grady sighed.
I shrugged and opened the file.”

Audiobook Review: Deadly Shore by Andrew Cunningham

Author: Andrew Cunningham

Narrator: Greg Hernandez

Length: 6h 46m

Publisher: Andrew Cunningham

Genre: Mystery/Thriller

It's July 5th, and the Cape Cod roadways are clogged with tourists heading home from the holiday weekend and trying to outrun an approaching potentially catastrophic hurricane. But in the blink of an eye, their lives are thrown into chaos when terrorists bring down the bridges to the Cape. Instantly, a half million terrified people have no way to escape. And when the terrorists threaten to release anthrax on the captive population if their demands aren't met, fear turns to all-out panic. With time running out, Marcus Baldwin, a private investigator and former CIA operative, and Sara Cross, a disgraced ex-homicide detective, are brought together by a sole clue to the identity of the terrorists. They quickly realize that they may be the only ones with even a chance at stopping the plot before it's too late. With Hurricane Chad barreling up the coast on a path for a direct hit on Cape Cod, it becomes frighteningly clear to everyone trapped on what has now become an island - one way or another they are probably all going to die.

I was born in England, but have spent most of my life living in the U.S.—including 25 years on Cape Cod before moving to Florida. A former interpreter for the deaf and long-time independent bookseller, I've been a full-time freelance writer and copy editor for many years. A 4th-degree Master Blackbelt in Tang Soo Do, I finally retired from active training when my body said, "Enough already! Why are you doing this to yourself?" I'm married, with two grown children and two awesome grandsons. My wife and I spend as much time traveling as we can, and are especially fond of cruising the Caribbean.
I have been gratified by the response to my books. When I published Eden Rising back in the spring of 2013, I had no idea what to expect. When I sold my first few copies, I was excited beyond belief that someone was willing to take a chance on it. Numerous books and thousands of copies later, I am still humbled by the emails I get from readers telling me that my books kept them up late into the night. In October of 2014, Wisdom Spring made me an official Amazon Bestselling author, a thrill I never thought would happen. But it still comes down to being able to bring a few hours of escape to a reader. That's what it's all about for me.

For more than 20 years I worked as a radio news reporter and news writer. I spent half of my broadcasting career at ABC News Radio in the Washington, D.C., bureau. I covered all the federal agencies as well as Congress and the White House. I reported on a wide range of stories during my career, including financial and entertainment industry news. I have worked as a federal government spokesman at three separate agencies for more than 20 years. At the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, U.S. Commerce Department), I introduced podcasting in 2005 just a few weeks before Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the United States. The 19 podcasts I narrated and produced from August 2005 to June 2007 were downloaded more than 600,000 times during that period. They're still online at the following link. http://www.noaa.gov/podcasts/podcast-archive.html I enjoy narrating audio books because it gives me great satisfaction bringing to life books of all genres, especially mysteries and thrillers.

Deadly Shore had me right at the very beginning. I couldn’t put it down and had to find out what happened with Cape Cod and the characters. Not only did they have to deal with a group of strangers blowing up the three bridges into Cape Cod and the airport runway but a hurricane that was on its way as well.
The narrator, Greg Hernandez did a wonderful job expressing all the different emotions from the characters. His accents and different tones were great and this is the first time I’ve listened to an audiobook that he’s read. Greg was able to read well with no mistakes. Overall Greg did an amazing job.
Deadly Shore receives five stars!

Star quarterback Marcus Kingston lives and breathes football. He’s trusted his abilities and instincts to get him this far, but an injury last season nearly ended his career. When his coaches want him to wear biofeedback technology to analyze his game, Marcus thinks the idea is ridiculous. Plus, the mousy scientist behind the project knows nothing about sports, and she quickly gets under his skin. But with another QB waiting on the sidelines, Marcus can either agree to participate, or be benched—permanently. Scientist Clare Wynifred values intellect above most things. With her brain constantly working, she has little interest in her appearance and zero interest in sports. She never imagined her wearable tech being used to improve someone’s game, but its success with the team could get her a military contract. Clare may be too late to save her brother, but her technology could save the lives of countless soldiers. She just has to make it work with the stubborn quarterback, and she’ll be one step closer to her goal. Marcus and Clare butt heads at first, but their mutual attraction quickly grows. And yet, with everything to lose, it’s easy to ignore that together they might be able to go the distance.

Leslie North is the pen name for a critically-acclaimed author of women’s contemporary romance and fiction. The anonymity gives her the perfect opportunity to paint with her full artistic palette, especially in the romance and erotic fantasy genres. The truth of the matter is she loves her fictional persona, Leslie North, more than her normal, day-to-day persona! Her bestselling books focus on strong characters and particularly women who aren’t afraid to challenge an alpha male. Inspired after years of travel, her stories are set all over the world, from the tough streets of Russia to the beautiful beaches of the middle east. Leslie fell in love with romance when she first picked up a scrappy, dog-eared romance book from her local library. She began writing soon after and the rest, as they say, was history. She now lives in a cozy cottage on the British coast and enjoys taking long walks with her two Dalmatians, George and Fergie.

Her ingenuity and ardent desire brought her to voice-acting which has rapidly grown into her thriving audiobook narration and production company, Atlantis Audio Productions. Rebecca delivers her stories with a mature and intelligent style characterized by a believable tone, and versatility in creating memorable and individual characters with her various accents and vocal qualities.      This is the first book I've read by Leslie North and listened to by Rebecca Roberts and it won't be the last. The characters are well developed and charming and it was definitively easy to get into. I loved that they were complete opposites yet the desire between the two of them was so strong and that's what brought them together. North did an amazing job bringing these characters together and I absolutely loved this book!
The narrator, Rebecca Roberts made the story even better. The way she was able to bring the characters together and use different accents when needed, but keep things clear with no mistakes.
Overall, I recommend this book and give it four stars.

EXCERPT

She would make a magnificent dragon. Wrapped in all the gold he could give her, her flesh peeking from beneath. She was his.
Kai.”
He looked over at Ellen, lifting a brow in inquiry.
Don’t mess with my cousin.”
He grinned. “I’m not. She’s my mate.” Ellen’s eyes widened while Breccan and Maxwell snickered. His eyes wandered down the hall she’d flounced out. She might have meant to look fierce, but her bouncy blonde hair and petite size negated that. Kai wanted nothing more than to follow her and claim her. Her scent was even stronger in the enclosed space than wafting on the breeze. He’d bet she wore a dragon’s mark somewhere on her luscious body. He couldn’t wait to hunt for it.
Holy cow! Are you sure?” Ellen grinned. “That’s great!”
Breccan chimed in. “By her reaction, I’d say not so great.” He sported a big grin on his face. “Looks like Kai will have a battle on his hands.”
Maxwell’s sly twist of his lips showed he was enjoying the situation too.
Kai glared at them. Damn wolves. They were a pain. He could see the colors in the kitchen change as his dragon attempted to get out. A little barbeque wolf was a tasty snack. The rumble of agreement by his dragon made him smirk. He couldn’t hurt those two, no matter how aggravating they were. Breccan was the only reason Ellen didn’t spend her days wrapped in fear any more. His dragon reluctantly settled down.
Excerpt #3:
What is up with the sniffing?” She sounded aggravated.
What do you mean?”
You sniffed me, Lou sniffed me, and the doc sniffed me. I took a shower! So, what the heck is going on?”
Kai grinned, a laugh rumbling out of his chest. Eyes spitting fire at him, Connie shoved at him to push him away. He didn’t budge. Kai grabbed her hands, one large hand pinning them down against the car and leaned down to kiss her. He took his time, tracing her soft lips with his tongue before plunging his inside to taste her sweetness. Her flavor burst on his tongue.
Connie struggled at first, and then tilted her head, opening her mouth to further exploration. He deepened the kiss, the softness of her mouth addicting.
Kai released her hands and pulled Connie up against him. Her arms slipped around his neck pulling him down as he pulled her up. Kai ran his hands up and down her back, pulling her legs around his waist. He rumbled. The feel of her curvy body against him drove him crazy. He moved, the denim constricting his erection. His dragon surfaced, wanting to claim her. He pulled her tighter against him, nestling his cock between the warmth he could feel emanating from between her legs. Kai rubbed against her, seeking relief. He wanted nothing more than to burst free and enter that sanctuary his denim denied him.

Excerpt

When she yawned for the third time, she decided it was time for a cup of tea. That would keep her going for another hour or so. She headed to the kitchen, and stopped short when Dirk appeared in the hall in front of her.
“Your bedroom is in the other direction.”
“Yes, it is. But the kitchen is where the tea is.” She tried to step around him, but he folded his arms across his chest and moved in front of her again.
“You don’t need tea. You need sleep.”
“I’m fine. I learned to go without sleep while I was in med school.” She tapped his forearm with her finger. “So, if you’d get out of my way I’ll go get my tea.”
“Not going to happen. You’ve had a hell of a day, and you’re exhausted. I’m not a doctor, but even I can tell you’re pushing yourself too hard.”
She stifled another yawn and pointed toward the kitchen. “I’ll sleep in an hour. I promise.”
“Are you always this stubborn?” he asked, but his lips were turned up into a grin that belied the annoyed tone in his voice.
“Always.” She hadn’t gotten this far in her career, or her life, by backing down, and she wasn’t going to start now.
“Noted. But you’re still not getting your way. Not this time.”
He moved so fast she didn’t have time to do more than blink before he bent over and hauled her over one massive shoulder. When he straightened, she yelped in surprise and started kicking and squirming. She knew it was hopeless, but she wasn’t going to suffer through this indignity without a fight. Her fuzzy slippers thumped against his side, and every time they connected, dots of purple lights danced across the walls and ceiling.
Put me down, you jerk!”
He clamped an arm across the back of her thighs, locking down her legs and started walking down the hall, away from the kitchen. “I’ll put you down when we get to your bedroom.”
She smacked her hand against his ass, which was the only part of him she could reach as she dangled off his shoulder. “I was wrong. You’re not jerk. You’re an asshole. You know what’s worse than eavesdropping? This. This is worse.”
A door slid open somewhere in front of them, but all she could see was Dirk’s broad back.
“I heard yelling. Is everything okay?”
She wriggled again. “No, it’s not. You’re supposed to be my bodyguard, so help me! Make Dirk put me down right now.”
“Uh, Dirk, is there a reason our protectee is upside down and royally pissed off?”
“She needs to go to bed and is too stubborn to admit it. So, I’m escorting her there.”
“Uh huh.” Blade appeared beside her, grinning from ear-to-ear. “Cute slippers.”
“You’re not going to help?”
“I’m not. You need rest. You aren’t any good to anyone if you’re too tired to think.”
“You’re both assholes.” She gave up arguing and went limp.
“Yeah, but we’re still right. Good night, Doc.” Blade gave her a jaunty wave and vanished from sight again, still chuckling.
